Next we headed inland and up in elevation to Holualoa, the original site of Kona. It's now an 'artist's colony' and there was a neat coffee shop there so we stopped for a bit. As we enjoyed our lattes out on porch under a huge banyan tree, a little guy came up and tried to interest your dad/Rob in some insurance (ha!)...
We enjoyed a great 6+ mile walk from the resort into Kona for an early dinner at Huggo's on the Rocks.....yummy fish tacos in a great atmosphere.....the tables are all outside under huge umbrellas overlooking the water and lava rocks......the 'floor' is beach sand, easily a foot deep......we wondered how the wait staff managed so gracefully. On the way back, we explored some tide pools and even happened upon a pretty large sea turtle having it's own dinner (the shell had to be 18 inches across!)
The sun is setting so we're headed off to the hot tub. Sweet dreams!
Gorgeous! What a great start to your time in paradise!!
ReplyDeleteLooks so fun! I found that I didn't like papaya when we were in Hawaii. But the pineapple was amazing. Happy trails!!
