sugar-fine sand and the clearest water........

sunday.october 28.2012
we arrived in destin last night after dark, owing to a prolonged stop in pensacola for some shopping at the Naval Air Station exchange and some de.li.cious bbcue at Sonny's.  We don't usually take a chance on restaurants we've not heard about, but when there's a place that serves MEAT that close to a place that houses so many men (NAS Pensacola) and when there are so many cars already there, we felt it was worth taking a chance and we weren't wrong!

The first 'cold snap' of the season has arrived in Florida along with us and promises to stay another couple of days, so we're glad we brought clothing we can layer. Lows at night get into the 40's and the highs won't get into the 70's until Wednesday or Thursday, so although the sunshine is brilliant, the breeze is pretty cool.  After a great two mile walk in the sugar-fine sand this morning, we drove Hwy. 30a  http://www.30a.com/ and recalled the great time we had on Edisto Island, SC because the beach homes that line this picturesque roadway (many of them painted in pastel colors) remind us of the homes there.

On the recommendation of a friend, we pulled in at Stinky's Fish Camp in Santa Rosa Beach   http://www.stinkysfishcamp.com/    on 30a and enjoyed yummy crabcakes eggs benedict.......Stinky's, where the motto is "with a name like Stinky's, it better be good"....and it was.......you can tell a)we're not seasoned 'foodie photographers' or b)we were really hungry or both....or we would have taken the pic BEFORE we devoured the feast, right?:)

We checked out an outlet mall and snagged a couple of Mrs. Field's cookies and some Starbucks for dessert before we headed back to plan the rest of our week.
