Well, although we are already thoroughly enjoying the wonderfulness of the solana beach/san diego area, we thought we'd catch you up on some sites along the way.......anyone remember this from 'Cars'?  Was this Luigi's, or something like that, a tire or repair shop?  Anyway, it's an iconic landmark in Shamrock, Texas along Route 66, so we decided to abandon the interstate for a photo opp.

We've been so incredibly blessed with beautiful weather and safe driving conditions all along the way!   We've listened to a 'playaway' from the public library...Dave Barry's Greatest Hits (can we all all say 'lol') and Tim, we've enjoyed (over and over) the cd that you and silas burned for us.

We spent awhile at the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert (got our passport stamped!) and watched a desert tortoise cross our path....those guys (and gals) can store 4-6 months of water in their bladders (yikes!).....silas, kady, and kylee....postcards with close-up-and-personal-pics of them are on their way to you!  Even though the desert environment is austere it is so beautiful!  And you know how many of the high tech wind turbines there are near Weatherford, OK?  Oh, my goodness, once we got into California ( around Indio) there were thousands!

Since we seem to have a 'tradition' of my (cathie/mom) being in the driver's seat during 'inclement weather' and interchanges around metroplexes (reinforced by my driving through the beautiful drive coming down to Phoenix from Flagstaff (sharp decline dealing with 18-wheelers followed by metroplex traffic), your dad (Rob) drove for quite awhile after that.  We were so blessed to land upon a Walmart Supercenter (you know how that made us smile!) in Hemet, Calif. and stocked up on groceries for the week before the hour further drive to Solana Beach.

We arrived at San Pebbles around 4pm and had time for a lovely tapas dinner nearby before a walk on the beach and then unpacking.  The condo is perfect for us, real roomy, and has everything we need (except you guys, of course!)

Today was wonderful....we'd planned to go to The Rock Church in San Diego, but we'll put that off till next Sunday.  We walked to a Sprouts store (4 mile rt) and saw much of Solana Beach then went into San Diego to Pt. Loma and Shelter Island for a terrific walking, gazing, picnicing day.  Just hanging out at the condo tonite.....foot massages being the order of the day;)
