a little of this and a little of that.....

yep, today was a potpourri of a bunch of sweet moments and some exploring.  We spent the early part of the day investigating and making our reservations for the zipline adventure.....yep, it's on the calendar for next Monday!  Then we mapped out a short drive to a farmer's market south of here ....got a couple of kinds of papaya to try and some flat bread (crackle) and three cheese dips for snacking.  (Tomorrow we'll be heading south again for a 3 hour trip to Volcanoes National Park and there are several stops we wanted to map out along that route.  We'll be spending Thursday night near the volcano at the Volcano Inn, allowing us two days in the area.)

Next we headed inland and up in elevation to Holualoa, the original site of Kona.  It's now an 'artist's colony' and there was a neat coffee shop there so we stopped for a bit.  As we enjoyed our lattes out on porch under a huge banyan tree, a little guy came up and tried to interest your dad/Rob in some insurance (ha!)...

We enjoyed a great 6+ mile walk from the resort into Kona for an early dinner at Huggo's on the Rocks.....yummy fish tacos in a great atmosphere.....the tables are all outside under huge umbrellas overlooking the water and lava rocks......the 'floor' is beach sand, easily a foot deep......we wondered how the wait staff managed so gracefully.  On the way back, we explored some tide pools and even happened upon a pretty large sea turtle having it's own dinner (the shell had to be 18 inches across!)

The sun is setting so we're headed off to the hot tub.  Sweet dreams!

  2. Looks so fun! I found that I didn't like papaya when we were in Hawaii. But the pineapple was amazing. Happy trails!!
