So flexibility and perspective......

......along with a delicious grilled fish about which we'd never heard, monchong, by name, was on the menu for our meal today.  We'd packed up our backpack with our base layers and all we'd need for our trip to the observatory at the top of Mauna Kea and donned our warmest clothes (including Smart Wool socks and closed shoes) and headed excitedly to the pick-up point for our tour.  Just as we pulled in, we got a call saying the tour had been cancelled for today due to winds (later we learned they are 60 mph winds!)......The next opening they have available is the day we leave so we are on a priority waiting list and, luckily, we're available to go any day they call us with an opening.

Disappointed?  Sure.  This was the tour we were looking forward to the most of any.  But still so full of gratitude for all the amazing adventures we've had and are continuing to have.  So, we headed on over to one of the eateries a taxi driver had recommended......Bite Me Sportfishing Bar and Grill....and enjoyed this delicious buttery, grilled monchong.  Then, when we read about what a primo nutritional value it is, we felt even better about our yummy meal!

So, yes, after sitting out on a marina deck in the sun in our smart wools and long pants, we were very ready to come back and get into some cooler clothing and plan the rest of our day.  And so we moved our Waipio Valley tour, which was scheduled for 1pm Saturday to 9am that day, just in case we get a call from Mauna Kea Summit Adventures that day.

And if we don't happen to 'catch the brass ring' to see the stars atop that mountain, perhaps that will give us another excuse to come back sometime, right?
